DP x DC AU — “Customer Service for the Afterlife (Part 2)”
The Justice League does not like mysteries.
Especially ones involving unknown supernatural monarchs.
So after the cult incident, they do what they do best.
They investigate.
It starts with the file.
PERSON OF INTEREST: Danny Fenton
• Teenager
• Appeared inside a functioning summoning circle
• Claimed employment under “King Phantom”
• Demonstrated knowledge of supernatural politics
• Left before questioning
Batman stares at the screen.
“This individual claimed to be an intern.”
Constantine snorts from across the room.
“Mate, if a summoning circle actually responded to him, he’s way more important than an intern.”
Zatanna nods slowly.
“Summoning rituals don’t grab random assistants. They pull authority.”
Batman adds another note to the file.
Possible direct connection to Ghost King.
Meanwhile.
Danny is having a bad week.
First, Clockwork laughed at him.
Laughed.
“You told them you were the intern?”
“It was the first thing I thought of!”
“Danny, you are the Ghost King.”
“I panicked!”
Clockwork is still amused.
Back in the human world, Danny is trying very hard to pretend everything is normal.
School.
Homework.
Friends texting memes.
The usual.
Right up until he opens the door to his locker and finds Batman standing behind him.
Danny freezes.
Batman is very calm.
“Danny Fenton.”
“…yes?”
“We need to talk.”
Danny immediately switches into his practiced voice.
“Hello! You’ve reached the Infinite Realms administrative office. My name is Danny and I’ll be assisting you today. Could you please state the nature of your inquiry?”
Batman does not react.
Constantine, leaning against the hallway wall, nearly chokes laughing.
“Oh this kid is brilliant.”
Batman narrows his eyes.
“You claimed to work for the Ghost King.”
Danny nods professionally.
“Yes. I handle… scheduling.”
Zatanna raises a brow.
“Scheduling what exactly?”
Danny pulls out his notebook.
“Well currently we’re dealing with:”
• three haunting disputes
• a territorial argument between two river spirits
• a dragon that refuses to acknowledge modern borders
• seventeen cult summoning requests
Batman focuses on the last one.
“You receive those regularly?”
Danny flips a page.
“Oh yeah. Tuesdays are the worst.”
Constantine rubs his face.
“Please tell me you’re joking.”
Danny shrugs.
“Depends. Are you here to request an appointment with King Phantom?”
Batman goes still.
Constantine slowly grins.
“Kid… hypothetical question.”
“Sure.”
“If someone wanted to meet this king… how long would the wait be?”
Danny checks his notebook.
“Let’s see… political meetings… haunt disputes… paperwork…”
He flips another page.
“Best I can do is about two hundred years.”
Zatanna stares.
Batman stares.
Constantine starts laughing again.
“Oh this is gonna be fun.”
Danny pockets the notebook.
Internally panicking.
Because if the Justice League figures out that the intern and the king are the same person, he is never going to hear the end of it.
And worse—
Clockwork definitely will.
